Manor Royal Business District is the biggest business park of the Gatwick Diamond area and one of the south east's premier mixed activity employment hubs. Located to the north of the town of Crawley in West Sussex, and located near Gatwick Airport, the area was designed for industry as part of the Crawley new town project. Manor Royal was officially named and opened by HRH Princess Elizabeth (later Queen Elizabeth II) on 25 January 1950.
Commissioned by Manor Royal BID and working with Allen Scott landscape architects who have developed a set of micro-parks across the district, my task was to help develop a series of narrative trails and public art for the micro-park locations and in the in-between spaces. A project where we engaged directly with stakeholders and community to harvest Manor Royal stories from the past and present which helped to inform the nature and narratives of the work. The pocket parks are currently under construction (end 2021) and public artworks are being installed.
