Avis Way is the heart of Newhaven’s business and industrial community, located at the northern edge of this vibrant port town. Home to a diverse mix of innovative enterprises, the area lacked visibility and presence. This project set out to strengthen its identity with striking public art interventions that mark the gateway and invite greater use of outdoor space – particularly around the green at Sylvania’s global headquarters.
Key interventions included:
• Supersized concrete ‘A’ and ‘W’ sculptures featuring timber seating, moulded place-based expressions, and integrated abstract artworks in the landscape.
• Concrete sculptural cubes with built-in timber seating and textured narrative expressions.
• A landmark gateway sculpture – a bold concrete ‘A’ with embedded Newhaven branding and moulded typography.
• Monumental polished chrome lettering with a mirror finish, forming a reflective and highly visible identity statement for the district.
Together, these elements transform the site into a place of arrival, interaction, and local pride—celebrating Newhaven’s energy and future-facing spirit.
